I have an old Ibook and for some reason I can’t open my personal folder. Maybe because I put a file vault on it which makes it more difficult to retrieve.It’s not accepting my old password and it doesn’t allow me to assign a new password. Most data recovery specialists I called was asking me between $ 600-$ 2000. It’s just a personal computer. I was hoping I could find something like $ 100-$ 150. Thanks in advance.

Get ubuntu linux (free of charge). Download the iso file and burn it to a disk. Then boot your computer with that disk. Navigate to the folder where your personal files are. Then copy those files and paste them to a flash drive or burn them to a disk. Or even better you can just open and work with them right in Ubuntu.
