my phone is rooted wen i turn it on the home screen doest load up jus a blank screen says “the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. please try again” everytime i force close it keeps comin bak and when i press the end key and home key once the phones turned off it gets stuck at the t-mobile screen can u help please!!!
Does the method of hard resetting the phone that you’ve SHOWN give the same results as going into the factory reset options on the phone in the menu itself? My phone works okay, but after almost 2 years of using it, it’s just… bogged down with floating stuff, apps, etc etc. I want to hard reset it just like formatting a computer to see if it’ll just run smoother again. Do these two options achieve the same result?

OMG! you just saved me like, 400 bucks. thanks!! woke up this morning my screen was black, freaked out and restarted. thinking it was ok cause the “T-mobile G!” logo came on, I was like cool. back to normal. then whalaaaa black screen. freaked out again. then was phoneless all day :[ shoulda came to youtube HOURS ago.

Dude! I thought I had bricked my Hero, and I´ve searched for help. I found a way to get another menu I had no idea about through your guide, it´s a little bit different though (just a touchscreen and a few buttons, no keyboard on this one).This is what I did: Press [HOME]+[POWER] and wait for the animation with a phone and a red warning sign, then press [VOL UP]+[POWER], there you have another menu with more options. Now I shall try these out. Peace!

A hard reset simply is restoring the OS that is on the phone’s internal chip (ROM).
If you have a rooted G1, a hard reset will re-install the OS that’s on the ROM.
E.g., if you rooted the G1 or bought it rooted AND there’s a custom ROM on the phone, a hard reset will simply “reinstall” that custom ROM.
A hard reset on the G1 is the same in concept as reformatting your computer’s hard drive and installing whatever OS you have, such as XP, Service Pack 1.
