i accidently formatted my SD card and i need to know how to get the files back?

I put the SD card into my card reader and it wouldn’t show up on my computer, so i tried plugging the camera lead in but the camera kept disconnecting every minute or so. So I was looking through the camera, looked at format (not knowing what it meant!) and went to press it but pressed cancel, but it deleted everything anyway. So I read that you can get some recovery software, so I have, but I’m not sure what to do because the card and camera don’t show up when plugged in so the software can’t find anything to recover! what shall I do?
