What usually causes a "Memory Card Error" on a camera memory card?
What is the likely cause of a "Memory Card Error" on a camera memory card?
It looks like I lost photos on my memory card. I had the memory error message appear on my camera’s lcd screen. When I try to read the card externally via the USB connection, that causes my computer to hang. I tried to run photo recovery software (such as Cardrecovery) but that reports there are no photos to restore.
Could static on the SD card’s pins have zapped the memory?
Does pulling out the reader from the USB port and not clicking on that "Safely Remove Hardware" arrow cause the memory card error?
Or could perhaps a card reader’s program could have zeroed out the memory card without me knowing it? Could that have caused it?
Thanks
I didn’t reformat the memory card as I wanted to recover the photos (a wedding and a graduation). I did test with the card that came with my camera (16mb card) and there’s no problem with writing and reading on that card. I actually plug the card into my brother’s computer over the holiday. I thought of mabye static as his computer tower was on the floor. The photos actually started to load (he had some photo software that automatically read the photos). As it was loading the thumbnails, I exited it out (my bad, I should have let it continue) and went to Windows explorer to copy the folders where the pictures were to the desktop. When doing that, I got a message that it couldn’t copy (something about a bad parameter), then the computer started to hang and I tryed rebooting with the card in the reader, but the computer would boot until I removed the card.

Your memory card might be corrupted or damaged or might have gotten a virus. You can try to reformat your memory card but all of your saved files would be deleted. If there is a virus, reformatting it would reset everything so you may be able to use the memory card still but if its already damaged, reformatting it wont help.
Or maybe, you have accidentally reformatted the memory card so there’s nothing on it already.
Pulling out the reader from the USB port and not clicking on that "Safely Remove Hardware" arrow can cause memory card error. This can damage the device or corrupt the data in it.
this can be the camera it self too, i had a friend who also had the same problem, the camera isn’t writing well to the disk, or the card is damaging.
Have you tried reformatting your memory card either in camera or in a memory card reader?
