Where can I send my corrupted memory card to have it taken apart?

Question by Alaina: Where can I send my corrupted memory card to have it taken apart?
My President’s Choice 4GB SDHC memory card (NEVER buy President’s Choice.. there’s a reason why their new line of Pro memory cards now come with a free disk of photo recovery software) somehow became severely corrupted in my Nikon Coolpix L20 camera while I was on vacation in Brazil. Whenever it’s in the camera, an error message comes up that reads “This card cannot be used” (I get a similar message when I stick it in other cameras, too). That card had over 950 photos on it from my vacation, and I’m desperate to get them back. My computer technician uncle tried to recover the images using multiple photo recovery software programs, with multiple different card readers, on multiple different computers. Nothing works. I took it to the pros at Kerrisdale Cameras, and they couldn’t help me either. My uncle thinks that my only option now is to send it off somewhere where they can take it apart and remove the card’s memory chip. I’ve looked into a few different places that specialize in this, and most of them are quite pricey (between 200 and 400 Canadian dollars), and pretty much all of them are located outside of Canada. I live in Vancouver and I’d like to send it off somewhere that’s Canadian to minimize any unecessary costs, since this is already a fairly expensive procedure. An example of a company that I found is: http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/ . Can anyone refer me to any such places? Thank you!

It sounds like you’re already trying all sorts of stuff, and I’m very sorry that I can’t come up with any miracle fixes.
I’m also sorry to be rubbing salt in your wounds, but please don’t ever do this again. I’d never leave ALL my precious photos on one memory card. I take along a laptop and burn CDs every night, as well as leaving my photos on the hard drive of the laptop.
Special vacation shots are just toooooooo precious to me.

I’ll cross fingers that you’ll find a way to get them back, and that in future you’ll back up and format your card on a VERY regular basis.
